Our Vision
The mission of Canaan Baptist Church of Christ is to win souls for Christ, and to bring individuals into a saving and redemptive relationship as disciples of Jesus Christ. We are a spiritual body whose only foundation is the Word of God. Our mission is to grow a congregation that is educated in the Word of God and has a strong relationship with God. As disciples of Christ, our mission is to proclaim the Gospel message, at work, in the community and everywhere we go, through pastoral care, evangelism, prayer and worship, and forgiveness and reconciliation. We seek only to be God’s servants as agents changing lives to love our Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ.

The Reverend Dr. Thomas D. Johnson, Sr. is an anointed man of God, called and appointed by God to his lead His people by the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the word of God into the transforming and renewing of the mind. In 2005, Dr. Johnsonwas appointed by God to lead Harlem’s historic Canaan Baptist Church of Christ. In 2006 he was installed as the fourth pastor in Canaan’s eighty-three year history. Dr. Johnson views his greatest success as being called by God into ministry. He is a powerful preacher, and dynamic teacher. Under his ten year pastoral leadership, the congregation has been implementing the vision that God gave him for a new era at Canaan based upon a biblical foundation. His leadership has focused on spiritual growth, worship, stewardship, discipleship, fellowship, help, healing, hope and global missions.
